Officials work to decrease large truck accidents

Auto accidents can be extremely dangerous. When one or more trucks is involved in an accident the mere size, weight and the speed of the vehicle can make these accidents increasingly dangerous. Truck accidents on West Virginia roadways can result in serious bodily harm, and sometimes death. Even when injury isn't present immediately after the accident, conditions can develop over time.

There is a great cost associated with large truck accidents including expenses, missed work, damaged vehicles, and in the most serious situation, loss of life. That's why research is currently being conducted to identify the most common areas for truck accidents throughout the U.S. The American Transportation Research Institute (ATRI) referred to more than 50,000 crash records from accidents that took place over a nine-year period.

Other phases of the research process will focus on strategies aimed at mitigating rollover accidents using real-time notification systems. They also hope to encourage officials to address potential problems related to roadway design and signage. "This research is not only important to the trucking industry, as it informs drivers of potentially dangerous locations, but it should jumpstart the dialogue between the industry and government to work together to improve safety at these sites," said Steve Niswander, the Vice President of Safety Policy and Regulatory Relations for Groendyke Transport.

Organizations such as the ATRI are working to identify locations where accidents most commonly happen in order to decrease the number of accidents that take place. Still, accidents take place on a daily basis. If you were injured in a car, truck or motorcycle accident it's important that you talk with an experienced personal injury attorney who will work to achieve results that are in your best interest.
