Car accident in neighboring VA involves RV, truck and police car

Serious injuries can occur during a car accident, leaving injured parties in need of compensation for medical bills and other related expenses.

Recently in neighboring Virginia, a police cruiser that had pulled over to the side of the road was struck by a pick-up truck that had collided with a RV. The car accident took place when the pickup lost control and crashed into the police vehicle after its initial collision with the RV. The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and the state trooper sustained only minor injuries. The collision is still under investigation.

There are several ways for a driver can be negligent, including not obeying traffic signs, signals or other traffic laws, failure to properly signal, not driving in accordance with posted speed limit signs (either above or below the speed limit)l driving in a way that is not safe for the weather, roadway or traffic conditions or driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Sometimes a distracted driver will cause an accident, such as when he or she becomes distracted from texting and driving.

Certain types of driving are considered reckless driving and drivers who engage in them and cause an accident can face liability for their intentional or reckless conduct. Reckless drivers are those who drive unsafely and disregard the dangers that these practices pose. These types of driving include speeding, improperly passing or frequent and excessive lane changing. Drivers injured in a car accident by the negligence of others can sometimes successfully recover medical expenses and compensation for pain and suffering.

Unfortunately, car accidents are common and can be complex. Help is available in sorting out the process to recover compensation for injuries following a car accident.
