Fiery West Virginia truck accident spills hazardous materials

Truck accidents can result in many different types of serious injuries.

A fiery tractor trailer crash in a neighboring West Virginia town recently backed up traffic for miles. Three people were hurt in the truck accident and one had to be air lifted to the hospital. Police reported that a car crossed the median and struck a Fedex truck head on. The Fedex truck was carrying hazardous materials. The chemicals involved in the tractor-trailer rollover accident were lithium and disodium trioxalate. The West Virginia Department of Transportation reported that Dupont Chemical was on the scene to make the area safe following the chemical spill and fire.

In some cases, the shipper of hazardous materials can be liable for injuries that were caused as a result of the type of cargo on a truck. This can be especially true if the shipper failed to advise the truck driver or trucking company of the hazardous nature of the cargo. In such cases, the shipper of the chemicals or other hazardous materials can sometimes be legally responsible for injuries caused by those materials.

As with all truck accidents, common personal injury principles apply to help protect victims. If victims suffer injuries as a result of the negligence of a truck driver or trucking company, for instance, damages may be available to compensate victims for harm suffered. Damages that injured parties may recover for physical, emotional and financial losses suffered as a result of a truck accident might include medical treatment costs, pain and suffering damages, as well as lost earnings and lost earning capacity.

Semi-truck accidents can leave victims with a variety of injuries. Help is available through the legal process for many types of harm suffered as a result of a truck accident.
