Motorcycle accident victims can suffer catastrophic injuries in motorcycles accidents often caused by other drivers.

Two people from the Cabell, West Virginia area recently suffered injuries in a motorcycle crash. The motorcycle accident occurred when a woman driving a car failed to yield to the motorcycle. The woman failed to yield the right of way as she was entering traffic to the motorcyclist and his passenger and struck them. The motorcycle driver and his passenger were both taken to the hospital. The motorcycle crash remains under investigation.

It is quite common that motorcycle collisions occur because a driver was negligent in failing to spot the approaching motorcycle and did not properly yield the right of way to the motorcyclist. In two-thirds of all motorcycle accident involving another vehicle, the driver of the vehicle failed to yield the motorcyclist's right of way and caused the accident. Although motorcycles are smaller visual targets when compared to other vehicles other motorists may share the roadway with, drivers still owe a duty of care to motorcycles to remain alert for them while driving.

When a driver fails to adhere to a duty and causes an accident, that driver is a negligent driver. Because motorcycle accident victims can face catastrophic injuries, the negligent driver will bear responsibility to the motorcycle accident victim for the harm the driver caused. Liability is based on negligence and drivers who do not exercise appropriate care for the safety of others, such as a distracted driver, may be required to compensate injured victims for many types of costs associated with the injuries they have suffered.

Because of the inherent vulnerability of motorcycle riders on the roadways, it is important to understand a rider's options if injured. If another party causes the injury, the motorcycle accident victim can oftentimes receive help with damages related to the injury.
