Rash of W. VA ATV accidents leaves half a dozen injured

Victims of ATV accidents may find that the injuries associated with an accident can have devastating effects on the lives of the victims.

A recent series of ATV accidents in nearby West Virginia communities left emergency crews busy and several people injured. One of the accidents involved three people; two of them were taken to the hospital via helicopter and one other was transported by an EMS crew. Another ATV accident resulted in one man being flown by helicopter to the hospital. In total, six people were taken to local hospitals as a result of recent ATV accidents. Most victims have since been treated and released.

The recent rash of accidents highlights the likelihood of injury if involved in an ATV accident. ATV accidents can commonly result in serious injuries such as head, brain, spinal cord or back injuries. In particular, ATV accidents have been known to leave victims with traumatic brain injuries (TBI). Traumatic brain injuries can create a catastrophic medical, professional and personal disruption in the life of a victim. Additionally, head and spinal cord injuries can require physical therapy and both types of injuries, including TBI, can require ongoing care. Recovery from these types of injuries can include extensive cost and time.

As a result, injured victims may find it necessary to seek compensation for injuries suffered in an ATV crash. If the victim was struck by a negligent driver, for instance, while riding an ATV or even if the victim was a passenger on an ATV and the driver of the ATV was negligent, victims may wish to seek damages from the negligent party. Damages can include medical expenses, future medical expenses, lost wages and lost earning capacity as a result of the injuries sustained.

To ensure as complete a recovery as possible, victims injured in an ATV accident may wish to seek compensation. A trained personal injury attorney can help the victim identify damages and guide the victim through the process of making a claim for damages.
