West Virginia car accident leaves several injured

Victims of car accidents should remember that help is available to simplify the process of making a claim against a negligent driver who caused the victim's injuries.

A West Virginia car collision recently injured four people. A woman making a left-hand turn crossed into an oncoming car's path and collided with it. The driver that was struck was injured, as were his mother and sister, who were in the car with him. All three victims were taken to a local hospital and then later airlifted to another hospital for further treatment. The driver making the left-hand turn was also taken to the hospital and then airlifted to another hospital for treatment. The accident investigation is ongoing.

Car accidents can cause a tremendous and ongoing disruption to the lives of an injured victim. If the accident was caused by the negligence of another driver, a victim can recover monetary damages for their injuries. Damages that are recoverable include compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, lost earning capacity and pain and suffering. Victims may not initially realize the extent of the healing that will be necessary following a car accident.

Typically, the insurance companies are involved in compensating the victim of an auto accident. To receive sufficient compensation for the serious injuries and damages the victim has suffered, the victim must establish that the driver against whom the claim is brought was negligent in causing the accident. In most circumstances, a driver making a left-hand turn has a duty to yield to oncoming traffic, unless a traffic light directs otherwise. Failure to yield the right of way is negligence.

Making a claim following a car accident can sometimes seem like a complicated process. An experienced personal injury attorney can represent a victim throughout the process and explain all the victim's options along the way.
