Mechanical defects can lead to ATV accidents

All terrain vehicles have become very popular in the United States, and more adults and teens have started using ATVs for recreational activities. ATVs can provide a lot of fun and excitement, but they also pose significant safety risks if they are defective or unsafe to use.

Defective ATVs can result in very serious injuries and even fatalities. Our article on ATV mechanical defects highlights the dangers of defective products, and the role mechanical defects can play in ATV accidents. Riders need to be aware of how to safely operate ATVs to prevent an accident. However, not all ATV accidents are caused by unsafe operation or user error.

Many ATVs are recalled every year for mechanical defects and other safety issues. The Consumer Product Safety Commission reports that there has been close to 100 safety recalls for ATVs since 2000. In addition to the many recalls, mechanical defects cause hundreds of fatal ATV accidents every year. In 2010, 590 fatal ATV accidents were reported to the CPSC, and there were roughly 115,000 injuries caused by ATV accidents as well.

Defective ATVs can be very dangerous to the public and are known to cause hundreds of ATV accidents every year in the U.S. Consumers should be cautious when using ATVs and be sure to stay up-to-date on product recalls and safety concerns before using an ATV.

Individuals who are injured in an ATV accident due to a mechanical defect should know that they can take legal action against the manufacturer. Manufacturers can be held liable for defective and unsafe ATVs that cause an injury or fatality. Victims can pursue a product liability lawsuit against the manufacturer and may be able to receive compensation for their injuries and suffering.
