Fatal motorcycle accident in Harrison County

Summer is here, as evidenced by the warmer temperatures and the last days of school. As the weather continues to improve, more and more West Virginia residents may dust off their motorcycles to hit the road. A favorite pastime, or even lifestyle, for many can be especially dangerous if there are negligent drivers on the road. Motorcyclists are especially susceptible to injury when involved in an accident.

One such motorcycle accident recently occurred in Harrison County, West Virginia. The accident involved a motorcycle and one other car. According to the West Virginia State Police, the driver of the car crossed over the center road line and collided with the victim's motorcycle a little before 12:30 p.m.

A number of law enforcement agencies responded to the crash, including local fire departments and EMS. Healthnet also landed nearby in order to assist.

The motorcyclist, a 41-year-old resident of Bridgeport, was initially transported by ambulance to a hospital in Bridgeport, and then later moved to a second hospital for surgery. The victim died during the operation.

As of now, the 33-year-old driver of the car has not been cited in the fatal motorcycle crash, but law enforcement is investigating the incident. Once the investigation is complete, law enforcement will consult with the county prosecutors and decide whether or not to press charges.

The family of victims involved in accidents like these may not know where to turn after losing a loved one. Families may still be in the midst of the grieving process when they start seeing medical bills or funeral expenses coming through the door. A wrongful death lawsuit against a negligent driver may be the farthest thing from their minds but it may be the only option to recover an award of damages from the responsible party. Compensation can not only help pay the bills, it can also bring a sense of justice to an otherwise tragic incident.
