Motorcyclist stuck by SUV in West Virginia accident

Motorcyclists love to ride, but they put themselves at great risk out on the open road. Motorcycles are no match for other cars and SUVs, much less semi-trucks and tractor-trailers. While motorcyclists can take many safety precautions, there is no way to prevent other negligent or reckless drivers from causing an accident or injury.

A motorcycle accident that occurred recently in northwest Roanoke left the biker in critical condition. According to investigators, the 62-year-old biker from West Virginia was riding his motorcycle when it collided with an SUV. The motorcyclist was apparently travelling southbound and the east-travelling SUV turned left on the road right before the crash, which happened during the late afternoon hours.

The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital and remains critical at the time of publication. Although the SUV was heavily damaged, no one in the vehicle was injured.

Investigations into accidents like this are common. Law enforcement looks for clues to determine the cause of the crash and determine if there is any liability on the part of those involved. As technology improves, so does the methodology of these investigations. In this case, the police are looking at the diagnostic module data from the SUV to get more details about the crash and the surrounding circumstances.

A personal injury attorney can be an important added resource during the aftermath of a motorcycle crash. While law enforcement officers determine whether or not to press charges against a driver, an attorney can work with an accident victim to prove civil liability against a negligent driver. For example, a drive may be considered negligent for failure to yield to oncoming traffic. A lawsuit against a responsible driver can enable the victim to recover compensation to pay for expenses related to the accident.

To better understand the options available to the victim of an accident, it is important that they become knowledgeable about their situation. This would help them take appropriate actions such as filing a civil action. Furthermore, this with ensure their rights and interests are protected.
