West Virginia University Hospitals sued for medical negligence

A birth injury can be devastating for expectant parents who have been eagerly awaiting the arrival of a child. Parents are often affected by the initial shock as well as the knowledge that injuries could require years of medical treatment. That's why it's so important for parent's to have an experienced personal injury attorney who will fight for the compensation necessary to obtain proper treatment for their child.

West Virginia University Hospitals are facing a lawsuit filed by a couple who claim that the negligence of the hospital's physicians resulted in permanent damage to their child. According to the report, Jennifer Bolack gave birth to a child in July who was born with no heart rate, no respirations and was limp, showing no spontaneous movement. The baby was noted to have suffered hypoxic ischemic encephalopathy and required two weeks of hospitalization before she was finally stabilized.

The couple filed a lawsuit saying that the physicians failed to monitor the labor properly, failed to provide qualified physicians and medical staff to examine the woman during labor, and failed to properly read the findings of the fetal heart monitor tracings. They also claim that a cesarean section was unnecessarily delayed.

The list of repercussions the baby suffered is long and includes multiple hospitalizations, therapies, seizures, deprivation of oxygen, respiratory distress, brain injury, developmental delays, delayed motor skills, and more. The couple is seeking compensatory damages in order to provide proper treatment for the child. In addition to the hospital, the West Virginia Board of Governors was named as a defendant in the suit.
