Hit and run driver sought after deaths of two motorcyclists

Motorcycle collisions can carry devastation to families.

A driver police believe fled the scene of a fatal car versus motorcycle accident is being sought in neighboring Virginia. The van the man was believed to be driving was abandoned down the road from the accident after it rear-ended the motorcycle, police say. Both the motorcycle driver and his passenger were thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. As it fled the scene, the van struck both motorcycle riders after they had already been ejected. The van was found broken down about a mile away from the intersection where the motorcycle accident took place. The driver is being sought by police for two felony counts of hit and run.

When a loved one has been tragically lost in a fatal accident due to the negligence or carelessness of another person, surviving family members may have the option of a wrongful death lawsuit against the negligent party. Wrongful death damages can be collected by a personal representative of the lost loved one's estate for the benefit of surviving family members such as a spouse, children and, sometimes, parents.

If the negligent driver cannot be either found or identified following a fatal motorcycle crash, damages may still be available to the victim's family. Damages for a hit and run accident can often be collected by victims through an underinsured or uninsured motorist insurance policy. The negligent party may face liability for damages, including medical and funeral expenses, lost prospect of inheritance and loss of support and services.

Motorcycle accident victims and their families have options when injured on the road. This is also true when the unthinkable happens and a motorcyclist is killed as a result of another's negligence.
