Motorcyclist injured in crash with pickup truck in West Virginia

Whether it is for pure enjoyment or their main source of transportation, some residents in West Virginia will ride their motorcycles for the majority of the year. Drivers of other vehicles, which are often much larger in size, will frequently share the roadways with these small vehicles. Unfortunately, some drivers fail to take note of their presence. If they fail to check blind spots, do not signal a turn or lane change, travel too closely to the motorcyclist or are speeding, the driver could collide with the bike and cause a serious collision.

Authorities in West Virginia were recently dispatched to a motorcycle accident that involved a pickup truck and a motorcyclist. The crash occurred on U.S. 60 in Barboursville around 9.p.m. Preliminary reports did not indicate the direction each vehicle was traveling in or where the point of impact was. It was indicated that the motorcyclist did suffer injuries and was transported to the hospital for medical treatment. No injuries were reported to the driver of the truck.

Investigation is still ongoing and officers have not made any statements regarding whether the driver of the pickup truck will face any charges. Once investigation is completed, authorities will be able to establish cause and assign liability.

Those injured might consider filing a personal injury suit against the negligent party, if one is identified. A motorcycle accident can result in serious injuries and severe damages due to the small size of the vehicle and the limited safety features. Even when a helmet is worn properly, a motorcyclist could suffer greatly and compensation could help alleviate expenses such as medical bills, rehabilitation, lost wages, and other related damages.

The negligence of a driver could seriously affect the lives of many following a motorcycle accident. In these matters, it is important to realize there are options following the crash. The injured party could file a civil action to help alleviate financial burdens and help them cope with the incident. Consulting an experienced attorney can set forth a legal plan of action that can benefit the injured party.
