Related vehicle crashes on Route 50 near Morgantown injure two

Paying attention to the road is always important, but recent winter storms in the eastern half of the country, including those that have blanketed West Virginia with heavy snows, have created road conditions that should make even the most experienced drivers pay extra attention and watch out for accident hazards. Failure to exercise due caution under such conditions is likely to result in a car accident.

A recent multiple-vehicle accident on Route 50 in Harrison County shows just how quickly accidents can happen. According to the West Virginia State Police, the first accident began around near Reynoldsville when an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck lost control of his vehicle and plowed into the back of a tractor-trailer. A third vehicle, a passenger car, was forced to stop because of the accident ahead and was hit from behind by an unspecified fourth vehicle.

The drivers of the F-150 and fourth and final vehicle were injured. The F-150 driver was flown by helicopter to WVU Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown while the fourth driver was taken to United Hospital Center in Bridgeport. Their conditions are not known. The drivers of the tractor-trailer driver and the third car were not injured.

Road conditions were reportedly icy at the time, so some of the drivers involved may have been negligent by driving too fast or otherwise not paying heed to weather and traffic conditions. It is possible that personal injury lawsuits could be filed if State Police traffic investigators find that any of the four drivers was responsible for any part of the two accidents and the resulting injuries and property damage.
